Vrada had babies! And Sophia's @ 3 weeks.

I figured Vrada was pregnant, as she was with Rex a month ago. I put them together on purpose, because for years I've tried with no luck to breed a Netherland dwarf buck to a Flemish giant doe. But now I've succeeded! Yay! I think it's partially because Rex is "big" for a Netherland dwarf and Vrada is "small" for a Flemish giant. Despite this, Vrada is more than 3 times heavier than Rex. As of today, they are one day old. I'll be taking their picture every Monday and posting on Tuesdays as is the usual routine. There are 4, 2 of them are dark and 2 are light. I'm guessing the white ones will develop gray highlights at the tips of their fur like their big half-sisters Yuki and Sophia. Here are Rex and Vrada's newborn babies:

I haven't forgotten about Sophia's babies. They are 3 weeks old now. Being that Vrada is Sophia's mom, and both have babies from the same male, that can cause some confusion. Vrada's babies are aunts/uncles and half-siblings of Sophia's babies. You could say of one of Sophia's babies that his half-sister's half-sister is his mom! And without any inbreeding. Here are Sophia's babies at 3 weeks:

On the goat front, Kambali has been acting extremely selfish and aggressive towards Trisa and her kids during feeding time. I've solved this problem by putting out 2 separate feeding troughs.

Bunnies at 2 weeks

Here are the baby bunnies at 2 weeks of age, plus better pictures of the proud parents Rex and Sophia.

Of a slightly scandalous note, it's possible that Vrada might have been knocked up by Rex too. If so, she is due on the 26th. This will be awkward, since Vrada is Sophia's mother.

Sophia had babies!!!

Rex and Sophia had bred, and last week they had a litter of 6 babies. Rex is my Netherland Dwarf, and Sophia is one of my Mini-lop/Flemish giant mixes. Like her mother, Sophia too was bred by a much smaller male. Sophia is more than twice the weight of Rex. Here they are pictured together, and their week-old babies, born on the night of 1/7. They have almost the same otter color variation as their father, except with brownish highlights. These babies are ½ Netherland dwarf, ¼ Mini-lop, and ¼ Flemish giant.

Cold Spell

All the goats are safe despite the temperature dipping to 11°F in the last couple of nights. The water pipes froze, so I couldn't give them water until just today.
